January - February

March - May

The "green season" is Kenya's low tourist period. While some roads can be challenging, this is an excellent time for budget travelers. The landscape is beautiful, and you'll have places almost to yourself.
June - July
Weather: Cool and dry (15-25°C)
Wildlife: Excellent - migration begins arriving
Highlights: Start of peak season, Great Migration reaches Mara
The dry season begins, and the Great Migration herds start crossing from Tanzania into Kenya's Maasai Mara. This is an exciting time with increasing wildlife activity.
August - October
Weather: Cool and dry
Wildlife: Peak season - best overall
Highlights: River crossings, optimal game viewing
This is Kenya's peak safari season. The Great Migration is in full swing with dramatic river crossings. Wildlife viewing is at its best, but so are crowds. Book well in advance.
November - December
Weather: Short rains (light, brief showers)
Wildlife: Very good
Highlights: Migration departing, baby animals, shoulder season prices
The short rains refresh the landscape. The migration begins moving south, but wildlife viewing remains excellent. This is a great time for visitors wanting good conditions without peak-season crowds.
